It’s been quite the ride thus far. Jane and I were married while I was still in graduate school, working on my MBA. We moved back to Minnesota in 1967 to allow me to complete a PhD, in the new field of Information Technology. For her part, Jane completed a master degree in Speech Pathology, later in life, and worked in the public schools for 17 years. In terms of my career, it is very difficult to explain. What began in 1965 and ended in 2005 was 40 years of teaching, writing, and consulting. While 30 of these years were spend working at the University of Oregon, other assignments included positions in California, Minnesota, and Canada. Writing played a major role in my life. With 25 books and a like number of technical articles, it should not surprise that I have some arthritis in my hands. Consulting ranged from working for start-up and dot-com companies, international assignments, attorneys, and large and small for-profit and not-for-profit corporations. Current interests include biking, downhill skiing, snorkeling, travel, gardening, golf (hit and giggle), and, I guess, staying alive. Our travels have allowed us to visit many countries and continents. Our most recent trip was to Peru and Equator, which allowed us to tour both Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. Both were glorious. There was also the experience of snorkeling with the seals while on the Islands. Sting rays and sharks require different stories. What the future holds, I suspect with be additional volunteer work, free skiing (at age 70), tending the roses, yearly visits with our grandchild, attending our youngest son’s wedding, and attempting to not get too cranky nor brittle with age. The 50th year class reunion. Time certainly rushes on. It’s a good thing none of us is old. |
