MY JOURNEY THE LAST 50 YEARS: After High School I worked for Honeywell in the Personnel Dept. and for the St. Paul Convention Bureau. In the fall of 1958 Ken and I secretly eloped to Iowa and I left for the Gustavus College fall semester. Our secret became public (thanks to my sister Mary) so we officially began our married life in January. The first 15 years we were busy raising five children and in August, 1989 we built a cabin in Siren, WI. As a family we seldom missed a weekend at the lake. When our youngest went to school I went to work for the Anoka-Hennepin School District #11 as a buyer and ended up as the Purchasing Coordinator. I supervised the Purchasing Dept., Acctounts Payable and the Receiving Dept. It was my responsibility to purchase everything that is contained within the walls of the School District. I think working at Skinners Dress Shop, getting a taste of buying, during the school years made me a natural for the job. I belonged to several professional organizations: ASBO, MASBO, Twin Cities Purchasing Organization and was a Past President of the Coon Rapids Federated Association. I retired in 1996 after twenty years with the School District and Ken retired one year later. After traveling in USA we made the decision to stay home and enjoy our home on the Rum River in Anoka during our "mild" winters and spend time during the summer at our cabin. Current interest: is belonging to two card clubs and two Red Hat Society clubs. I like to knit, sew, read and garden, mostly in pots now. I spend hours watching the wildlife on the river and the lake. Our biggest joy has been our five children and our nine grandchildren ages ranging from 20 years to 6 months. Another great joy for me has been keeping in touch throughout the years with six of my classmates; we are sometimes known as the Red Hat ya-ya's of 57. I am excited for our 50th reunion and visiting with everyone about their journey the last 50 years--so be sure to come!
